Dr. Schmidt grew up on a farm in NW Iowa with numerous cats, a dog, and several cows and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian.
Dr. Schmidt has special interests in soft tissue surgery, abdominal ultrasound, neurology, emergency medicine, and exotic pets (small mammals and the occasional reptile). She also has a passion for human wellness in the veterinary profession and loves to encourage her co-workers in living out their purpose and taking charge of their own health and well-being.
Dr. Schmidt received her B.S. in Animal Science in 2003 and DVM degree in 2007 from Iowa State University. She then completed a rotating small animal internship at New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater, MA. Upon completion of her internship, Dr. Schmidt moved to Illinois and worked as an emergency and critical care veterinarian for 5.5 years and then switched to general practice for the past 7.5 years. Dr. Schmidt is thrilled to be back in Iowa pursuing her passion at Animal Medical Clinic of Merle Hay and Animal Care Clinic West & Metro Cat Hospital and looks forward to establishing new relationships with your pets here.
Outside of work, Dr. Schmidt enjoys spending time with her husband, T.J., two daughters, Morgan and Rylie, and dog, Holly. When she’s not running around with 2 active girls, she enjoys exercising, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends.
“I love developing long-lasting relationships with the pets and clients I serve. I am dedicated to your pet’s health and wellness and strive to provide exceptional care and expertise to your pet.” - Dr. Schmidt
